Pensions & Investments: Not all investment managers are alike. That's true of AI platforms, too

The most successful custodians are no longer just listing mutual funds or ETFs, but using the data to help rethink distribution and present investment ideas thematically, visually and in context for clients, said Geoff Clauss, chief revenue officer at Boosted.ai, a fintech company that helps asset managers use AI to build and refine equity portfolios.

The launch of the new version of Alfa is happening at a time when companies are embracing AI, “not just as a tool, but as a colleague, a software system capable of thinking, doing, and even acting on its own,” as PYMNTS wrote last week. “That, after all, is the promise of agentic AI: systems that can not only generate content or parse data, but go beyond passive tasks to autonomously make decisions, initiate workflows, and even interact with other software to complete tasks end to end,” the report added. “It’s AI not just with brains, but with agency.”

“Agentic AI works proactively to monitor markets, analyse portfolios and generate actionable insights without constant prompting,” explains Mr Pantony. “We are seeing demand shift from basic AI tools to full-scale AI-powered ecosystems.

Multi-billion dollar A.I. investments from Meta Platforms (META) and Amazon (AMZN) are what Geoff Clauss calls "fantastic" ways to establish data center dominance. In the case of Meta, its 49% stake in Scale AI makes the case for the importance of start-ups as the space evolves. Many asset management firms had previously expected to realize a return-on-AI investments over a decadelong horizon, Josh Pantony, CEO of Boosted.ai, tells Sam Heller of FundFire. However, hiring slowdowns have started to become a more feasible short-term goal as firms see the benefits of AI, Pantony said.
